House-Pop

Pop built on a classic house engine: rolling 122-126 BPM four-on-the-floor, deep filtered bass, piano stabs or organ chords and soulful diva vocals over a swung hi-hat. Warmer and more groove-driven than EDM-pop, it favors a continuous build over a hard drop. Garage-tinged claps and hand percussion add the bounce.
History
Crossed over when Chicago and UK house templates met pop songcraft, via late-80s acid-house chart hits and 90s piano-house anthems. Black Box, Robin S and CeCe Peniston brought house diva vocals to the mainstream, and the sound has cyclically returned through nu-house revivals into the 2020s.
