Horrorcore uses grotesque violence, slasher imagery, dark humor, occult suggestion, and menacing production to create rap as shock cinema. It can be theatrical, serious, campy, or all three at once.

History

Geto Boys and Esham opened key pathways, while Gravediggaz, Brotha Lynch Hung, Three 6 Mafia, and Insane Clown Posse each developed distinct horror-rap modes. The lane influenced Southern darkness, trap-metal, underground shock rap, and a lot of lyrics that probably made parents reach for the album booklet like it was evidence.
