Spooky, monster-movie surf: minor-key reverb guitar, eerie tremolo, organ drones, ghoulish sound effects, and creeping waltz tempos. Keeps surf's wet tone but bends it toward Halloween menace, with titles evoking graveyards, B-movie creatures, and midnight horror hosts. Surf for the haunted-house dance floor.

History

Seeds were planted in the early 1960s with eerie surf instrumentals, but it crystallized as a named scene in the 1990s when The Ghastly Ones built the first dedicated 'spooky surf' band from early-60s surf and hot-rod influences plus monster-movie love. Daikaiju brought masked kaiju theatrics from 1999; the style thrives in the modern surf revival.
