Horror Punk

Horror Punk is melodic punk dressed in monsters, murder ballads, sci-fi, comic-book dread and Halloween romance. It usually keeps fast drums, simple guitar hooks and singable choruses, but its imagery turns punk alienation into pulp mythology. Compared with deathrock it is less atmospheric and more song-driven; compared with psychobilly it is less rootsy and more Ramones-meets-creature-feature.
History
Misfits created the core template with short, hooky songs and horror-film imagery, while Samhain darkened the sound and 45 Grave connected punk to deathrock theatrics. The Damned and TSOL supplied adjacent gothic-punk DNA, and later bands such as Blitzkid, Calabrese, The Creepshow and AFI's early period kept horror punk active for new generations. The style works because horror gives punk a visual world as immediate as its riffs.
