History
Bridged hard rock and the arena mainstream from the late 1970s, peaking mid-'80s as Whitesnake, Scorpions and Dokken scaled big riffs to platinum arena audiences. The style filled the gap between radio-friendly melody and metal, and Whitesnake's 1987 self-titled blockbuster marked its commercial high before the '90s shift.
