History
Guitar-forward worship drew on 1990s alternative and arena rock, with the Edge's atmospheric playing a key influence, and matured through Hillsong UNITED's rock-band era and Jesus Culture's Redding-rooted, pedal-heavy sound in the 2000s–2010s. United Pursuit's organic jams and Elevation Worship's slick arrangements expanded the palette, and the style became a staple of youth and conference worship where electric-guitar builds drive the room's energy. Multitrack culture and tone-chasing worship guitarists made the electric guitar central to the modern worship sound.
