Grindcore

Grindcore is hardcore punk and extreme metal compressed into blast-beat violence: very short songs, guttural or screamed vocals, political disgust, noise, tremolo riffs and sudden shifts between blur and lurch. It is faster and more extreme than most punk, but its roots in hardcore and anarcho scenes keep the attitude direct. The style often feels like a protest sign fed through a malfunctioning machine.
History
Napalm Death gave grindcore its name and early shape in the UK, while Repulsion, Siege, Terrorizer, Carcass, Brutal Truth and Extreme Noise Terror supplied parallel routes through hardcore, death metal and crust. Earache Records, tape trading and DIY networks made the style international. Grindcore later splintered into goregrind, powerviolence-adjacent scenes, cybergrind and technical grind, but the original engine remains speed, brevity and social revulsion.
