Greaser Country

Greaser country emphasizes style as much as sound: pompadour-ready rockabilly rhythm, slick guitar tone, swaggering vocals, and vintage Americana iconography. It is less feral than punk-country and more image-conscious than raw rockabilly, with the chrome polished but the engine still loud.

History

The sound owes much to the rockabilly revival, when 1950s visual culture returned alongside roots-rock interest. Stray Cats, Chris Isaak, Robert Gordon, Dave Edmunds, and later retro-roots performers helped keep the greaser aesthetic attached to country-derived rock rhythm.
