The broad, anthemic rock-end of the goth umbrella: big distorted-yet-shimmering guitars, surging basslines, driving drums and soaring or sepulchral vocals scaled for the club floor and the festival tent. Theatrical and accessible, it foregrounds hooks, crescendos and gothic spectacle, bridging underground darkness with arena-sized momentum.
History
As gothic rock matured it grew bolder and more melodic, embracing rock muscle and singalong choruses. The Sisters' second wave, the Mission, the Cult's early run and the Damned's gothic turn pushed it toward the mainstream, while 1990s torchbearers like London After Midnight kept the scene alive. It remains goth's most recognizable, radio-adjacent rock voice.
