Gospel Roots Rock adds sanctified harmony, church-mode keyboard color, or explicitly devotional phrasing to a roots-rock frame. The songs may not be "gospel songs" in the strict genre sense, but the lift, call, and communal release clearly come from gospel tradition.

History

The Band is the classic center point, but later roots-rock acts kept drawing on gospel feeling because it gives electric roots music moral gravity and emotional lift without requiring full church formatting. It is one of Americana's most reliable sources of goosebumps.
