Gospel jazz rap layers rap with church-derived harmony, choir or organ color, jazz chords, and often a redemptive or testimonial lyrical frame. The sound can range from warm boom-bap and jazzhop to brighter live-band arrangements, but the unifying trait is the meeting of sanctified feeling and jazz-aware musical language.

History

The clearest mainstream catalyst was Chance the Rapper's gospel-rich rise, especially around Coloring Book and the Social Experiment orbit, but Christian jazz-hop and gospel-jazz-rap playlists and independent scenes broadened the lane further. Artists such as Gowe, Propaganda, Swoope, and related faith-facing lyricists showed that jazz-flavored rap could carry devotion without sounding musically timid.
