Goa trance is the original psychedelic trance form: spiraling melodies, Eastern/spacey atmosphere, long arrangements, and dense but not yet fully modernized psy bass design. It feels mystical, ecstatic, and hand-painted where later psytrance often feels airbrushed and clinical.
History
The genre grew from parties in Goa, India, where European travelers, DJs, and producers fused acid, early trance, EBM, and psychedelic culture into a distinct ritual dance sound. Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Man With No Name, Total Eclipse, Juno Reactor, and Transwave are among the core acts that defined the idiom before psytrance streamlined it.
