Global Bass
Located in 2 routes
Global Bass is club music built from bass-heavy electronic production and global street rhythms: kuduro, cumbia, baile funk, dancehall, reggaeton, soca, bhangra, dembow, gqom and more. It is a DJ culture as much as a genre, circulating through blogs, edits, SoundCloud, festivals and diaspora parties. Its best tracks amplify local scenes; its worst turn them into anonymous flavor.
History
Global Bass took shape in the 2000s as DJs and producers used the internet to trade regional club sounds outside older world-music channels. Diplo and Mad Decent, Buraka Som Sistema, Munchi, Uproot Andy, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Chancha Via Circuito and Bomba Estéreo became reference points. The category blurred as reggaeton, Afrobeats and Latin electronic entered mainstream pop, but the club-network idea remains influential.
