Glam-Punk Roots is the trashier, street-level side of glam rock that fed punk: platform-boot swagger, cheap glitter, loud guitars, gang vocals, gender play and songs that sounded both theatrical and desperate. It strips glam's fantasy down to attitude and riff, making style itself feel confrontational. The sound is less polished than mainstream glam and more flamboyant than garage rock, which is exactly why early punks borrowed from it.
History
New York Dolls were the central bridge, turning Rolling Stones swagger, girl-group hooks and thrift-store camp into punk prehistory. The Hollywood Brats, The Runaways, The Dictators, Johnny Thunders' Heartbreakers and parts of Alice Cooper, Sweet and Slade supplied models of loud, theatrical rebellion that punk later hardened. Glam-punk roots also mattered visually: torn glamour, androgyny, leather and street fashion helped punk become a complete cultural image, not just a tempo.
