History
Pioneered by the New York Dolls, whose trashy 1973 debut fused glam flamboyance with proto-punk grit and influenced the Sex Pistols and KISS. Cleveland's Dead Boys brought it stateside menace, while Johnny Thunders and Jayne County carried the lipstick-and-leather attitude into the punk era. Finland's Hanoi Rocks revived the look and sound in the early '80s, bridging directly into Sunset Strip glam metal.
