Gameboy Music
Located in 1 route
Gameboy Music is chip music made on Nintendo Game Boy hardware or explicitly modeled on its four-channel sound: two pulse channels, one wavetable channel, and a noise channel. It often uses LSDJ, Nanoloop, cartridges, link cables, and modified hardware, giving it a distinctive gritty bass, sharp melody, and handmade live-performance feel. The sound can be pop, rave, ambient, or punk, but the Game Boy's limits remain audible.
History
Gameboy Music became a scene when homebrew cartridges let artists turn handheld consoles into portable instruments. Nanoloop and Little Sound DJ were central tools, and 2000s chip events made the Game Boy a stage instrument rather than a toy. Nullsleep, Bit Shifter, Bubblyfish, Trash80, Glomag, Henry Homesweet, Sabrepulse, Chipzel, Anamanaguchi, and 8 Bit Weapon helped define the hardware-chip era, influencing indie game soundtracks and live chip performance.
