Future Funk is vaporwave's upbeat disco-house cousin: chopped funk, city pop, boogie, soul, and Japanese pop samples pushed into bright dance loops. It usually has faster tempos, heavier kick drums, filtered hooks, anime visuals, and a celebratory mood. Where classic vaporwave suspends time, future funk tries to make nostalgia move.

History

Future Funk grew when vaporwave producers and French-house/nu-disco fans turned sample collage toward dance pleasure rather than corporate unease. Saint Pepsi, Yung Bae, Macross 82-99, Night Tempo, Desired, Vantage, Flamingosis, Skylar Spence, Tanuki, Mikazuki BIGWAVE, Moe Shop, Android Apartment, and Fibre became scene anchors. Business Casual, Artzie Music, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and YouTube livestream culture helped turn it from a vaporwave offshoot into a recognized party sound with its own touring acts.
