French Touch is the broader late-1990s French electronic movement around filtered house, disco sampling, chic graphic identity, and a distinctly Parisian bridge between club underground and pop modernism. It includes French house but also downtempo, electro-pop, and label cultures around Source, Roulé, Crydamoure, Yellow, and later Ed Banger. The sound is recognizable for its elegant loops, shiny compression, playful futurism, and the feeling that old funk and disco records are being viewed through a new machine.

History

The scene arrived globally when Air, Daft Punk, Cassius, Étienne de Crécy, Stardust, Bob Sinclar, and Dimitri From Paris made French electronic music feel unified even when it was stylistically broad. French Touch benefited from sample culture, home studios, strong visual design, and 1990s dance-music export channels. By the 2000s, it had splintered into pop house, electroclash, blog-house, and Ed Banger crunch, but its first-wave records remain a core template for disco-house revival and sample-led dance pop.
