History
Built in early-90s Paris and Marseille: MC Solaar brought poetic sophistication, IAM (formed 1989) fused funk, jazz and Middle-Eastern sounds on 'L'École du micro d'argent' (1997), and Suprême NTM voiced banlieue anger. Booba dominated the 2000s as 'King of French Rap'; 2015's PNL and SCH redefined the sound with atmospheric, melodic introspection. France is now the world's second-largest rap market.
