French House is the French club style that turned disco samples, compressed drums, vocoders, bright basslines, and filter sweeps into a glamorous late-1990s electronic sound. It overlaps with French Touch and filter house, but the phrase often points more directly to dance-floor house records by Daft Punk, Stardust, Cassius, Alan Braxe, Modjo, and their peers. Its best tracks feel both handmade and machine-polished: human funk fragments pushed through hardware until they become chrome-plated pop.

History

French house grew out of Parisian rave, hip-hop sampling, American house, disco collecting, and labels such as Roulé, Crydamoure, Source, and Solid. Daft Punk's Homework gave the scene global visibility in 1997, while Stardust's one single and Cassius's records made the sound pop-cultural. Around 2000, Modjo, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, and later Justice and Ed Banger-adjacent artists extended or toughened the language. The style's sample craft remains a reference point for modern pop and nu-disco.
