History
Grew out of the late-'70s singer-songwriter wing and the folk-protest tradition that fed heartland rock from the start, crystallizing when Springsteen stripped down to solo acoustic narrative on 1982's 'Nebraska.' Steve Earle's bluegrass and acoustic records carried it on, linking the genre's Woody Guthrie roots forward into contemporary folk-leaning Americana.
