Folk-Americana Blues is acoustic or lightly amplified blues that sits comfortably beside folk, country, old-time, gospel and singer-songwriter music. It favors narrative lyrics, fingerpicking, resonator guitar, warm vocals and repertoire that can move from front porch to listening room. Compared with strict country blues revival, it allows more contemporary songwriting and more Americana color while still using blues grammar.

History

The style descends from folk revival interest in Lead Belly, Mississippi John Hurt, Reverend Gary Davis, Elizabeth Cotten and Delta blues, but modern performers reshaped it for Americana audiences. Taj Mahal, Keb' Mo', Eric Bibb, Corey Harris, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Rory Block, Kelly Joe Phelps and Chris Smither kept acoustic blues alive as a living songwriting language. It remains one of the least fashion-dependent blues forms.
