Film theme covers are cinematic but domesticated: sweeping strings, clear melody statements, harp glissandi, soft timpani, and sentimental key changes turn screen material into living-room listening. They often move at slow to mid-tempo ballad speeds and depend on memory, not plot, to do the emotional work.
History
The soundtrack boom of the widescreen era fed this substyle with an endless supply of recognizable melodies from romance and prestige cinema, and artists such as Percy Faith, Ferrante & Teicher, Francis Lai, Ronnie Aldrich, and Paul Mauriat transformed film cues into standalone adult hits; television, radio countdowns, and easy-listening compilers kept these themes circulating long after their films left theaters.
