History
As Trinidad's fete economy exploded from the 1990s into a months-long season of branded parties, a strain of soca evolved specifically for those rooms rather than the road or the competition stage. Machel Montano's "Mr. Fete" (2012) named the phenomenon, while Destra Garcia ("It's Carnival"), Farmer Nappy, Nadia Batson, Shal Marshall and Kes supplied the anthems of the circuit; hits like "Hookin Meh" and "So Long" defined late-2010s fetes. Diaspora carnivals in Miami, Toronto and Notting Hill globalized the fete-soca playlist, keeping the lane vibrant year-round.
