Bright, glossy continental pop built for maximum hummability: clean major-key melodies, polished studio production, layered harmonies, and choruses engineered to be sung in any language. Mid-tempo to dance-leaning, it favors warm synths, crisp drums, and an optimistic sheen over edge or grit, prizing instant catchiness above all.
History
Coined to describe ABBA's Swedish-made global pop in the mid-70s, Europop became the umbrella for continental hit-making: Stockholm, the Netherlands, and Germany churned out radio-ready singles. Ace of Base and Aqua carried it into the 90s with reggae-tinged and bubblegum variants, cementing Europop as the export-grade pop dialect of the continent.
