Mid-2000s mall-emo and scene culture: theatrical confessional lyrics, screamed-and-sung dynamics, glossy double-tracked guitars and Warped Tour anthems paired with side-swept black hair, eyeliner and MySpace. Bigger and shinier than 90s emo — pop-punk muscle, post-hardcore screams and arena drama fused into youth-culture spectacle.
History
Building on early-2000s emo, the scene exploded around 2004 via Warped Tour, Fueled by Ramen and MySpace, with My Chemical Romance's 'Three Cheers' and Fall Out Boy's breakthrough leading the charge. Black Parade-era theatrics and Panic! At the Disco pushed it to mainstream peak before tastes shifted by decade's end.
