Electro House is a harder-edged house style built on distorted basslines, bright synth riffs, punchy four-on-the-floor drums, and a more aggressive attack than classic or deep house. In the EDM era it became one of the main feeder styles for festival drops, influencing complextro, big room, bass house, and pop-dance production. It can be funky, robotic, maximal, or abrasive, but the core feel is a house groove pushed through electro-style timbre and compression.

History

The style developed from electroclash, French electro, blog-house, and 2000s club house before becoming central to EDM's rise. Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction," deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner's precision production, The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki's punk-rave edge, and Knife Party and Skrillex's heavier post-dubstep energy all shaped the vocabulary. By the mid-2010s electro house had partly split into big room and bass house, but its distorted-lead DNA remains obvious in festival electronic music.
