Electro-Dance Pop
tagStarted 2007Peak 2008-2013Last big hit still active
Dance-pop with a buzzy electro-house edge: distorted saw and square-wave synths, gritty filtered basslines, robotic vocoded textures and a hard four-on-the-floor with snapping electro snares. Glossier and more aggressive than synthpop, it pairs club-grade low end with neon hooks and a slightly mechanical, fembot sheen.
History
Surged in the late 2000s when electro-house production met pop, defined by RedOne's work with Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas' synth-maximalist phase. 'Just Dance' and 'I Gotta Feeling' made the buzzy electro pulse Top 40's center, with Ke$ha and David Guetta extending the glittery, distorted dance-pop wave into the 2010s.
