Electro Breaks is the breaks style where electro bass, machine funk, vocoders, robotic riffs, and chopped breakbeats sit together. It borrows from 1980s electro and Miami bass but uses the heavier club engineering of 2000s breaks. Compared with Funky Breaks, it is more synthetic and bassline-driven; compared with Florida Breaks, it is less region-specific; compared with Nu Skool Breaks, it foregrounds electro texture rather than only big broken drums.
History
Electro had always been part of breakbeat DNA through Afrika Bambaataa, Egyptian Lover, Miami bass, and U.K. electro-bass records. In the 2000s breaks scene, producers such as Stanton Warriors, Deekline & Wizard, Ctrl-Z, Bassbin Twins, Uberzone, Krafty Kuts, Freestylers, and DJ Icey pushed that heritage into a punchier club format. The sound overlapped with electro house and bassline in the mid-2000s, but its breakbeat swing kept it distinct from straight four-four electro.
