Egg-Punk is a modern DIY punk microgenre built around twitchy tempos, nasal vocals, cheap synths, rubbery bass, cartoonish repetition and deliberately awkward songwriting. It is usually fast and simple, but the personality is in the oddness: songs feel like garage punk trapped inside a broken arcade cabinet. The style rejects both macho hardcore seriousness and polished indie taste, making stupidity, speed and weird texture feel like virtues.
History
The term spread through internet-era punk taxonomy, often contrasted with heavier "chain punk." Bands such as The Coneheads, Uranium Club, Gee Tee, Snooper, Research Reactor Corp., Powerplant, Ausmuteants and Neo Neos became reference points for the sound's jittery minimalism. Egg-punk thrives through small labels, Bandcamp, cassettes, memes and local DIY scenes, turning older synth-punk, KBD punk, Devo worship and garage weirdness into a new shorthand.
