DJ Shadow and trip-hop showed how crate-digging could become cinematic electronic music, while Boards of Canada made tape nostalgia and degraded melody into a whole emotional language. The Avalanches, Prefuse 73, Four Tet, Burial, Bibio, Flying Lotus, Madlib, J Dilla, Blockhead, RJD2, Teebs, Clams Casino, Actress, and later lo-fi house producers kept using dust, hiss, and worn samples as musical information rather than defects.
