Dub House puts house music's swing and four-on-the-floor groove through dub delay, chord stabs, muted vocals, low-pass movement, and long DJ-friendly arrangements. It is warmer and more soulful than strict dub techno, but more spacious and hypnotic than vocal house. The style works especially well in late-night deep-house sets where bass and echo matter more than choruses.
History
Dub house grew from New York, Detroit, Chicago, Berlin, and European deep-house scenes as producers borrowed dub mix technique from reggae and Basic Channel. Round One, Round Two, Main Street, Rhythm & Sound, Swayzak, Soul Capsule, Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Chez Damier, Stacey Pullen, Luomo, Herbert, Kerri Chandler, and DJ Sprinkles all helped define the vocabulary. Its influence persists in minimal house, deep tech, afterhours house, and dubby edits.
