Dub Electronic is the broad bridge between dub and electronic music: effects-desk mixing, drum machines, cut-up vocals, post-punk basslines, ambient synths, techno repetition, and studio-as-instrument arrangement. It is wider than digital dub and less style-bound than dub techno, covering any electronic record where dub logic becomes the main design principle.
History
The lineage runs from Jamaican dub into UK post-punk and experimental studios, especially On-U Sound's Adrian Sherwood universe. African Head Charge, Dub Syndicate, Creation Rebel, New Age Steppers, Tackhead, Jah Wobble, Bill Laswell, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Orb, Sub Dub, Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound, and Pole all used dub as a method for reshaping electronic texture. The approach fed trip-hop, industrial dance, ambient house, leftfield bass, and experimental club music.
