Dream trap blends trap drums with floating synth clouds, soft-focus melodies, and an almost narcotic sense of drift. It is less aggressive than mainstream trap and more rhythmically grounded than pure ambient rap.
History
The lane grew out of cloud rap and psychedelic trap aesthetics, especially around Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Kid Cudi-adjacent influence, and producer worlds that treated reverb and delay as lead instruments. It fed directly into melodic trap and modern "spacey" rap production.
