DJ Breaks
Located in 1 route
DJ Breaks is the breakbeat lane centered on DJs, turntablists, battle records, sample-collage, and break compilations rather than ordinary club songs. The material may be a megamix, scratch tool, battle record, or cut-up of funk and rock breaks, but its job is the same: give DJs drums, stabs, phrases, and transitions to manipulate. It is where hip-hop's break tradition, turntablism, and electronic cut-and-paste culture most directly meet.
History
Grandmaster Flash's "Adventures on the Wheels of Steel" proved that a DJ performance could become a record, while Double Dee & Steinski, Coldcut, and later DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist made sample-collage into an art form. The Ultimate Breaks & Beats series gave DJs and producers a shared library of drum-break sources, and Dirt Style, DJ Qbert, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, DJ Rectangle, and other battle-break labels gave turntablists purpose-built vinyl. DJ Breaks still underpins scratch practice and beat archaeology.
