Disco-House Pop
tagStarted 1998Peak 2019-2024Last big hit still active
Pop that loops a chopped disco sample or live nu-disco funk over a four-on-the-floor house pulse: slap bass, Chic-style scratch guitar, string stabs and filter sweeps. Brighter and more retro than straight house-pop, with a strut in the groove. Choruses are airy and danceable rather than drop-driven.
History
Rooted in late-90s French-touch filter-disco (Stardust, Modjo), the style fed into pop and surged again around 2019 when Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia and Beyoncé's Renaissance restored disco-house to the charts. The 2020s nu-disco wave made looping, filtered funk a default pop texture.
