Rock taken apart and reassembled wrong: the verse-chorus-riff machinery dismantled into fragments, silences, abrupt edits and collage. Songs lurch, stall, derail and reform; familiar rock gestures appear shattered or warped through dub space and studio surgery. The pleasure is structural sabotage—rock's parts present but the logic that binds them deliberately broken.

History

Talk Talk's Laughing Stock (1991) and Bark Psychosis dissolved rock into space and silence, a key origin point. Disco Inferno's sampler-driven fragmentation, Slint's stop-start ruptures and Radiohead's later studio collage extended it. The approach runs through post-rock's avant edge, prizing demolition of form over crescendo.
