Pop torn into parts and rebuilt wrong: melodies, vocal snippets and dance rhythms fractured, atonal, drenched in metallic, post-industrial sound design with sudden switch-ups, glass-shatter percussion and apocalyptic dynamics. Avant-garde and art-leaning, it keeps a haunted pop core inside abrasive, ever-collapsing electronic architecture.
History
Emerged from mid-2010s deconstructed-club experiments, with Arca's 'Mutant' (2015) and Yves Tumor's work breaking down dance and pop into visceral, identity-probing soundscapes. SOPHIE's 'Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides' (2018) pulled the abstraction toward song form, situating deconstructed pop at the experimental vanguard of the internet-pop family.
