Deathrock

Deathrock is gothic punk before it fully separates from punk: skeletal guitars, tribal drums, theatrical vocals, horror imagery, graveyard atmosphere and a raw club-band edge. It is darker and spacier than horror punk, but usually more ragged and punk-rooted than later gothic rock. The sound leans on mood, echo and bass movement while keeping enough bite to feel dangerous rather than purely romantic.
History
Los Angeles was central, with Christian Death, 45 Grave, Kommunity FK, Super Heroines and Voodoo Church turning punk into a darker ritual vocabulary. UK bands such as Alien Sex Fiend and Specimen overlapped through batcave and gothic club culture, while Theatre of Ice and other American acts pushed the horror-theater side. Deathrock became a foundation for goth, dark punk and horror-punk revivals because it made punk feel haunted without abandoning its rawness.
