Guitar bands engineered for the dancefloor: angular, syncopated riffs, four-on-the-floor or disco hi-hat patterns, propulsive basslines and big shout-along hooks. Cleaner and poppier than dance-punk, it pairs new-wave gloss with rock muscle. The pulse is the point, every part chopped to make hips move while choruses stay arena-sized.
History
Surged in the early 2000s when post-punk-revival bands re-aimed rock at the club. Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out (2004), built on a Moroder-style accelerando, became the template; The Killers, Scissor Sisters and Bloc Party brought disco beats and synth gloss to rock radio. The style dominated mid-2000s festival mainstages and indie discos on both sides of the Atlantic.
