History
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's work on Janet Jackson's 'Control' (1986) and 'Rhythm Nation 1814' (1989) defined this lane — heavily swung synthesized percussion under tight, danceable hooks. Paula Abdul, Bobby Brown's stage shows and MC Hammer's spectacle extended it, fusing new jack rhythm with pop choreography for the MTV and tour-spectacle era.
