Hardcore built on one relentless engine: the 'd-beat,' a galloping kick-snare-kick-snare drum pattern with crashing ride, named for Discharge. Buzzsaw distortion, mid-tempo-to-fast charge, and barked anti-war slogans. Songs are short, blunt and repetitive by design, prioritizing raw momentum and total sonic saturation over variety.
History
Named after Discharge, whose 1981-82 records (Why?, Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing) set the template. The style exploded in Sweden via Anti Cimex, Mob 47 and Crude SS, then global imitators built whole bands around the beat. In the 1990s it merged with crust and metal through Disfear, Tragedy and From Ashes Rise.
