Crust Punk is punk made heavier, dirtier and bleaker: metallic riffs, hoarse vocals, distorted bass, D-beat or pounding drums, anti-war politics and a visual language of black denim, patches and ruin. It sits between anarcho-punk, hardcore, metal and post-apocalyptic street culture. The sound is not just fast; it is corroded, with guitars and bass often forming a single wall of grime.
History
Amebix, Antisect and Discharge provided the early DNA, while Doom, Hellbastard, Extreme Noise Terror, Nausea and Deviated Instinct defined the 1980s crust vocabulary. In the 1990s and 2000s, Disrupt, Aus-Rotten, Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone and From Ashes Rise spread the style through squats, DIY labels and global tape-trading networks. Crust influenced grindcore, blackened punk, sludge, stenchcore and neo-crust while keeping anarcho-punk's ethical charge.
