Crossover Thrash

Crossover Thrash is the collision of hardcore punk and thrash metal: punk tempos and gang vocals combined with palm-muted metal riffs, double-time drums, chugging breakdowns and skate/street attitude. It is tighter and more metallic than early hardcore, but usually shorter, funnier and more pit-focused than orthodox thrash metal. The sound thrives on riff momentum, shouted hooks and the feeling that punk kids and metalheads have finally joined the same room.
History
D.R.I.'s Crossover gave the style its name, while Suicidal Tendencies, S.O.D., Cro-Mags, Corrosion of Conformity, Excel, Nuclear Assault and later Municipal Waste defined different versions of the blend. The 1980s skate scene, tape trading and mixed punk/metal bills helped erase subcultural borders. Crossover later revived in the 2000s and 2010s as bands returned to fast riffs, shorts-and-sneakers aesthetics and party-or-political pit energy.
