The slick, radio-ready face of country rock: bright pedal steel and twangy guitars wrapped in lush soft-rock production, glossy multi-part harmonies and hummable hooks. Mid-tempo, sun-warmed and immaculately recorded, it trades barroom grit for AM-radio sheen and choruses engineered for singalongs and FM rotation.
History
Took shape in the early 1970s as country-rock bands chased the charts with smoother, more melodic arrangements. Poco and Pure Prairie League refined the template; Firefall, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and the Eagles pushed it onto pop radio through the mid-to-late 1970s. Its breezy harmony-pop sheen defined a whole era of soft-rock crossover.
