Later, Always...Patsy Cline and the Johnny Cash revue Ring of Fire mined the catalog, and Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's bluegrass-flavored Bright Star (2016) brought Appalachian string-band music to Broadway with Carmen Cusack's acclaimed lead. Perennially less common than pop or rock scores, the country musical nonetheless carved a durable niche, bringing Nashville and Appalachian sound to the theatrical stage.
