Country Calypso adds calypso-like bounce and island melody to country songwriting, often with smiling rhythmic lift, Caribbean color, and a deliberately unserious sense of escape. It is one of the lightest branches of country fusion, preferring sunshine, wit, and sway over grit.

History

Buffett's tropical catalog is the clearest source, especially where his songwriting leaned toward Caribbean rhythmic caricature or homage. The lane never became a dominant radio format, but it remained a recognizable sub-style inside the wider beach-country and Gulf-and-Western ecosystem.
