The radio-formatted heart of CCM rock: melodic, mid-tempo to driving guitar songs polished for adult-contemporary and Christian-hit playlists. Earnest lead vocals, layered harmonies, anthemic but tidy choruses and lyrics balancing personal faith with broad accessibility. Cleaner and more song-focused than the harder branches, built for chart performance.
History
Grew through the late '80s and '90s as the CCM industry matured around Dove Awards and Christian radio formats. Acts like Third Day, MercyMe and Newsboys turned faith-rock into a chart machine; Third Day alone logged dozens of No. 1 Christian singles, and MercyMe's 2001 'I Can Only Imagine' crossed into the secular mainstream and went multi-platinum.
