History
As ballet companies moved beyond the inherited repertory, choreographers and institutions increasingly commissioned living composers, drawing on minimalism, modernist chamber writing, electroacoustic sound, and post-classical aesthetics; this produced a lane in which composers such as Philip Glass, John Adams, Joby Talbot, Max Richter, Thomas Adès, and Nico Muhly became central to the contemporary stage.
