History
The Who's 1969 rock opera Tommy and the Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow established album-length narrative; Pink Floyd's The Wall and Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway brought it to a peak. The form crossed into metal via Queensryche and into pop-prog, remaining the format of choice whenever rock bands want literary scope.
